Professor Shao Ruitai specializes in the practical application and research of policies, strategies, and interventions for the prevention of chronic diseases (primarily cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, cancer, and chronic respiratory diseases), as well as the implementation of evidence-based interventions in the real world. He and his team currently are implementing the following research projects: 1) The Daqing Diabetes Prevention Phase II Study, which aims to promote the translation and implementation of evidence for lifestyle interventions for diabetes prevention from Daqing DPS study and emerging digital interventions into the real world (Daqing DPS-study II); 2) The SHARP study, a collaborative study with multiple hospitals in China, focusing on the prevention of stroke recurrence and disability reduction through home-based care; 3) The CHICCs study, a hybrid intervention and implementation study using the care cascade model effects to improve management of hypertension and diabetes in rural areas of Henan and Shandong; and 4) The WELCOME study, another combined intervention and implementation study for adult weight loss. He and his team are also conducting exploratory research in the areas of frailty and cognitive measurement, as well as policies and models for elderly care. He promotes international exchange and training in evidence-based medicine concepts and methods, as well as their application in public health practice. He involves in projects established by the Academy of Engineering, such as the International Public Health and Health Care System and the International Comparative Study of Healthy Aging. Professor Shao Ruitai previously worked in the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Department at the World Health Organization Headquarters from 2001 to 2021, and also used to work in the field of disease prevention and control in China. He is currently a member of the National Disability Prevention Expert Committee and the Academic Committee of the National Center for Respiratory Diseases. He is also the Associate Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Medical Journal (English Edition), the Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine, and the Journal of Nutrition, Health & Aging.
