Introduction of the Organizer

Introduction to the Global Implementation Society (GIS):

The Global Implementation Society (GIS) was established in 2012, evolving from the Global Implementation Initiative (GII) launched in 2008. As a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing implementation science worldwide, GIS aims to foster synergy among research, policy, and practice, promoting evidence-based implementation strategies across various health service sectors to enhance the well-being of children, families, individuals, and communities. Currently, GIS is chaired by Professor Niveen Abu-Rmeileh, a Professor of Epidemiology at the Institute of Community and Public Health at Birzeit University in Palestine. Her long-standing research focus is on public health, health information systems, and implementation science.

To support the global promotion and application of implementation science, GIS engages in a wide range of activities and resource development, including convening the regular Global Implementation Conference and regional symposiums to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world. These events facilitate the exploration of cutting-edge progress in implementation science and its local adaptation. Additionally, GIS collaborates with Springer to publish the journal Global Implementation Research and Applications (GIRA) to disseminate the latest research findings. It also releases the Competencies for Implementation Facilitators, providing guidance for professional development in implementation science. Further, GIS offers online learning opportunities and training—such as digital courses, webinars, and learning resources—to strengthen theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field.

Introduction to the Asia Society of Implementation Science (ASIS)

The initiative to establish the Asia Society of Implementation Science (ASIS) began in 2024. It was originally proposed by Professor Malabika Sarker (now at Brown University, USA) from Bangladesh, and jointly launched by Professor Rohit Ramaswamy from the University of Washington (USA), Associate Professor Mathuros Tipayamongkholgul from Mahidol University (Thailand), and Professor Dong (Roman) Xu from Southern Medical University (China). ASIS’s mission is to advance capacity building and international collaboration in implementation science across Asia, foster the local development of implementation science in Asian and other low- and middle-income countries, and encourage more researchers in Asia to engage with implementation science to improve health and well-being. At present, internationally renowned experts in the field of implementation science from multiple Asian countries have joined the ASIS Preparatory Committee (see Appendix 1). The committee’s secretariat is located at Mahidol University, and the four professors mentioned above serve as the co-chairs of the committee. The Preparatory Committee has decided to convene the 2025 Asian Conference on Implementation Science (ACIS) in Guangzhou, where the first ASIS president and the society’s committees will be elected. ASIS is currently undergoing the formal registration process in Thailand.
